Join us in the Canadian Rockies and we will take you on a photographic adventure to capture the stunning landscapes in both Banff and Yoho National Parks. On this 7-day tour, we will visit the Canadian Rockies’ most iconic landscapes, including the world-renown Lake Louise. In September, the autumn colours promise to add even more colour to the breathtaking scenery.

This trip will balance the incredible travel experience with dedicated photography instruction. Not only will we guide you to incredible landscapes, but we’ll show you everything you need to know about your camera and its settings so that you can begin capturing strong images. In the classroom, we’ll take it a step further, too, and show you the tips and tricks you need to edit your images like a pro.

We will focus on the beautiful landscapes, photographing sunrise and sunset as often as possible; however, we’ll also keep our eyes on the forecast. If there’s a chance of clear night skies and northern lights, we’ll take advantage!

Throughout the workshop, all participants can expect:
Full-day adventures, each day, that cover various aspects of landscape photography

Hands-on, personal instruction and every location, no matter your skill level

Individualized photography instruction, including everything from basic camera settings and compositions to specific skills for sunrise & sunset and night sky photography.

Classroom sessions showcasing our complete post-processing workflow in Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and more adventured techniques, like exposure blending, in Adobe Photoshop CC. Try out the Adobe Photography Bundle if you don’t already have it.

A unique travel experience and the opportunity to build new friendships and learn from fellow photographers.
Above all else, we have fun! And we eat plenty of ice cream!

Our f/8 workshop trips require a minimum number of participants. We appreciate your commitment to join us and we will confirm the trip a minimum of 2 months in advance. Feel free to secure your place on the workshop, but please be patient and wait until we confirm with you before you book your flights. We are unable to assist with airline refunds. Please note, we will provide full and immediate refund from our ticketing site should the workshop not take place.

One the workshop is confirmed, we will let you know it’s time to book your flight. Participants should plan to arrive at the Calgary International Airport (YYC) on Saturday 19th September, 2020.

Accommodation is comfortable, but not luxurious. All f/8 workshops promise single occupancy, so you will have your own room throughout the workshop unless you make alternative arrangements. Throughout the workshop, we will stay at two different hotels. The move is necessary simply to reduce our time spent in the vehicles.

It’s autumn in the Canadian Rockies. We are prepared for anything from warm sunny days to the season’s first snowfall. We will adapt our plans to make the most of the conditions.

We teach everyone from beginners to advanced photographers. Beginners will learn their camera settings and improve their craft, while experienced photographers will leave with a stronger portfolio.

We always recommend either a dSLR or mirrorless camera with at least a wide angle and telephoto lens; however, it isn’t truly necessary. Whether you’re using the latest professional gear or a basic point and shoot, we will help you get the best out of your camera.

It’s no secret that the Canadian Rockies are dramatic, but few people realize just how accessible these locations truly are. If you’re comfortable carrying your camera equipment and hiking for 30-45 minutes, you’ll be fine.

Feel free to contact us with your questions. Once you are registered, you’ll receive an information pack and general timeline for what to expect moving forward.

Please check our complete Terms and Conditions for more details.

Payment is required when you make your reservation. Cancellations are accepted 7 days prior to the tour, but are subject to a 25% non-refundable booking fee.

Some of my best images have been created in terrible weather, so it’s rare that I will cancel a workshop due to conditions; however, I reserve the right to cancel if conditions are unsafe. This will only occur if the temperature drops below -30C/-22F or if Environment Canada issues a Severe Weather Warning.

In the event I must cancel a workshop, participants will be given the option to reschedule to a later date or receive a full refund. I will not be liable for expenses incurred outside of my workshop, such as airfare or accommodations.

Jeff Bartlett
Bio:

“Jeff is a natural teacher. He is relaxed and easygoing, with a keen eye for his student’s strengths and weaknesses and a willingness to put himself second and their experience first.”
Kita Roberts, return participant
I focus on the art and craft of adventure, blending photography, video and writing with a keen passion for story. Since returning to Canada in 2011, after four years abroad, I have lived and worked in the Canadian Rockies. My clients include online publications like National Geographic, Afar.com, and Geo Magazine; destination marketing organizations, including Travel Alberta and Banff Lake Louise Tourism; and major retail brands, such as Eddie Bauer, Samsung Canada and Toyota.
Over the past five years, I’ve developed a passion for teaching photography. I’ve been fortunate to lead workshops through the Alberta Rockies and across the globe. Alongside these one-on-one workshops in Banff and Yoho National Parks, I host a series of annual workshops, including: Jasper Dark Sky Photo Workshop, f/8 Scotland, and f/8 Faroe Islands. Beyond these scheduled tours, I’ve hosted seven and 14-day trips in Iceland, Morocco, Peru, and Cuba.
I have hands-on experience with Sony, Nikon and Canon equipment; however, I primarily shoot with Sony mirrorless cameras and a mix of both Sony and Sigma Lenses. I also own an Olympus micro4/3rds camera system, which I use on extended backcountry trips.
